Frequently asked questions
- How do I calculate churn rate?
- Monthly churn rate = Customers lost during the month ÷ Customers at the start of the month × 100.
- What is annual churn?
- Annual churn = 1 − (1 − monthly churn)^12. It compounds the monthly rate over 12 months.
- What is a good churn rate?
- For SaaS, 3–5% monthly churn is average for SMB; enterprise products aim for under 1%. For consumer subscriptions, 5–7% monthly is typical.
- What is retention rate?
- Retention rate = 100% − churn rate. It's the percentage of customers who stay.
- What is customer half-life?
- The number of months it takes to lose half your current customers at the current churn rate: ln(0.5) ÷ ln(1 − churn).
- Is this calculator free?
- Yes — free, no signup, 100% browser-based.
- Are my numbers stored?
- No — everything runs in your browser. Nothing is sent to our servers.
- Does it project future subscribers?
- Yes — we show a 12-month projection of remaining subscribers assuming constant churn and no new acquisitions.
- Can I include new signups in the projection?
- Enter a monthly new-signups number and we'll factor it into the 12-month projection alongside churn.
- Does it handle negative churn?
- Negative net churn (expansion revenue exceeding lost revenue) is a great sign. Enter 0 lost customers and the tool shows 0% churn and 100% retention.
