Frequently asked questions
- How do I calculate the number of hours between two times?
- Use "Same day (shift)" mode, enter the start and end in 24-hour format, and the tool shows the duration in hh:mm, decimal hours, and total minutes.
- How do I calculate the time between two dates?
- Switch to "Across days" mode and enter both date-times. The tool computes the absolute difference and shows the result as days · hours · minutes (and as decimal hours), so multi-day spans work correctly.
- How do I subtract a break from the duration?
- Use the "Break (minutes)" field. A 30-minute lunch break is subtracted from the gross duration so the result reflects actual worked time.
- How do I convert hours to decimal hours?
- The "Decimal hours" line shows the duration as a decimal — e.g. 8:30 becomes 8.5. Useful for timesheets, payroll and invoicing.
- How do I add up multiple time blocks?
- Compute each block separately, then use our time-to-decimal hours converter to sum them all in one go using its bulk-mode field.
- What if the time crosses midnight?
- If the end time is earlier than the start, the tool assumes the period crossed midnight and adds 24 hours automatically — and warns you on screen so you can verify.
- Can I use time zones?
- Not directly. Convert both times to the same time zone first, then enter them. For most timesheet use this isn't an issue because the start and end share a zone.
- How do I calculate weekly working hours?
- Compute each day's hours here, then sum them — or use our time-to-decimal hours converter's bulk mode and paste all your daily durations.
- Can I export to CSV?
- Use "Copy result" to grab the duration as one line of text — paste it into a spreadsheet to build a CSV.
- Does it work on mobile?
- Yes. The time inputs use your phone's native time picker on iOS and Android.
