Frequently asked questions
- How do I make a favicon?
- Drop your logo (a square PNG works best), click Download favicon pack, and unzip it into your site's root. The HTML snippet inside tells you the tags to paste into your <head>.
- What sizes are included?
- 16, 32, 48, 64, 96, 128, 180 (Apple touch icon), 192 and 512 (Android home screen), 256 — plus a multi-image favicon.ico containing 16/32/48.
- Can I keep transparency?
- Yes. By default the icons keep transparency. Toggle on a background colour if you want the logo on a solid square — useful for Apple touch icons that show square crops.
- What input image works best?
- A square logo at 512×512 or larger, with a transparent background. SVG files work too — they'll be rasterised cleanly at every size.
- Where do I put the files?
- Upload them to the root of your site and paste the HTML snippet into the <head> of every page. The snippet is included as `favicon-html-snippet.html` in the ZIP.
- Will my logo be uploaded?
- No. Favicons are generated entirely in your browser, so your logo stays on your device.
- Why do I need a multi-image .ico file?
- Older browsers and the address bar pick the size that fits best. A multi-size .ico ensures the icon stays sharp from 16 px tabs up to 48 px taskbar shortcuts.
- Will the favicon work on iPhone home screens?
- Yes. The 180×180 apple-touch-icon is included and the HTML snippet wires it up correctly.
- Does it work on mobile?
- Yes. The tool runs in mobile Safari and Chrome — though it's easiest to design the icon on a desktop.
- Is the favicon generator free?
- Yes. Free, no signup, no watermark.
