Frequently asked questions
- How do I convert Word to PDF?
- Drop your .doc or .docx onto the upload area, then press Convert. The PDF is ready to download a few seconds later — open it in any PDF reader.
- Will my fonts and formatting look the same?
- Yes for standard fonts (Calibri, Arial, Times New Roman, etc.). If you used a custom font that isn't installed on the server, LibreOffice substitutes the closest match — usually invisible to the eye, but you can also embed fonts in your Word file beforehand for a perfect result.
- Why does this conversion need a server?
- Word's .docx format requires a real document engine to render correctly to PDF. We use a headless LibreOffice on our server, process the file in memory, and delete it within minutes — see the amber notice above for details.
- Is there a file size limit?
- Yes — files up to 25 MB are supported, and each conversion is capped at 60 seconds. For larger files, compress embedded images in Word first, then convert.
- Are my files stored or shared?
- No. Your file is processed in memory, the PDF is streamed back, and the temporary copy is deleted right after. Nobody on our end opens, reads or shares your file.
- Can I convert a Word file with track changes or comments?
- Yes. By default, tracked changes are accepted in the rendered PDF and comments appear in the margin. To suppress them, accept all changes and delete comments in Word before converting.
- Does this work on Mac and Windows?
- Yes. The conversion runs on our server, so the result is the same regardless of your OS — Mac, Windows, Linux, iOS or Android.
- Will the PDF be searchable?
- Yes. Because we render from the source Word file, the resulting PDF contains real text — search, copy and screen readers all work.
- Is the conversion free?
- Yes — no fee, no signup, no watermark. The site is funded by ads on the rest of the pages.
- Can I convert old .doc files (Word 97-2003)?
- Yes. Both .doc and .docx are accepted. Very old or unusual formatting may need a quick visual check after conversion.
