Frequently asked questions
- How does AI grammar checking work?
- Your text is sent to OpenAI through our server with instructions to act as a careful grammar and spelling editor. The model returns a corrected version that preserves your meaning, voice and structure.
- Will it change my writing style?
- It's instructed to preserve voice. It fixes errors, not stylistic choices — so deliberate sentence fragments and unusual phrasing usually survive.
- Is it better than browser spellcheck?
- Spellcheck only flags individual misspelled words. The AI catches subject–verb agreement, tense slips, missing articles and obvious word-choice errors that spellcheck misses.
- Does it explain my mistakes?
- No — by design it returns only the corrected text so you can paste it back. If you want explanations, paste the corrected version next to the original and skim the diffs.
- What languages does it support?
- It's tuned for English. Other languages will sometimes work but may pick up Anglicisms — use a native-language tool when accuracy matters.
- Can it handle technical or domain-specific writing?
- Yes, generally. Domain-specific jargon (legal, medical, code) is preserved if it's grammatical. The model occasionally swaps a domain term for a near-synonym; review domain-critical text carefully.
- What's the maximum length?
- About 12,000 characters per request. For long documents, edit one section at a time so the model can focus.
- Is my text stored?
- No. Your text is processed in memory and forwarded to OpenAI. Nothing is written to disk on our side and OpenAI does not use the request for training.
- Why did it not change anything?
- Either your text was already clean, or the model considers your wording valid. Re-run with a more specific request if you suspect issues.
- Is the AI grammar checker free?
- Yes. We cover the OpenAI API costs. Per-IP rate limits keep things sustainable for everyone.
